Possum removal
done properly
A possum in the roof is a building problem as much as a wildlife one. We remove the animal humanely under state wildlife law, then close the hole it used — because a possum removed from an open roof is simply a vacancy for the next one.
What possum removal actually is
Possum removal is the humane extraction of a possum from a roof, wall or chimney by a licensed operator, followed by sealing every entry point so it cannot return. In Australia possums are protected, so trapping and release must follow state wildlife law. A typical job takes 2–3 hours, inspection is free, and we are on site within 60 minutes.

What you are hearing
Six signs it's
a possum, not a rat.
Possums are heavy, slow and loud. Rodents are light and fast. Telling them apart before you book saves you paying for the wrong job.
Heavy thumping after dark
Possums are nocturnal and heavy-footed. Thumping that starts at dusk and moves across the ceiling is the clearest sign of all.
Hissing, screeching, grunting
Territorial calls carry through plaster. Two possums in one roof will fight, and you will hear it.
Stains on the ceiling
Urine soaks through plasterboard and leaves brown rings. Left alone it rots the sheet and the timber above it.
Damaged insulation and wiring
Possums flatten batts to make a nest and chew cabling, which is where the fire risk comes from.
Scratching around the eaves
Claw noise at the roof line, usually at dusk or just before dawn, is a possum working an entry point.
A sour, musky smell
Droppings and urine build up in the cavity. The smell gets into the rooms below long before you see anything.
The part most people get wrong
You cannot
just trap it.
Possums are protected native wildlife in every state we work in. Trapping one, relocating it down the road or harming it is an offence — and the fines are not small. Only a licensed operator can handle the animal, and release is governed by the law of your state.

Possum removal
Everything people
ask us first.
How do I get a possum out of my roof?
A licensed operator installs a one-way door over the active entry point so the possum leaves at dusk and cannot get back in, then seals every other opening. DIY trapping is illegal in Australia because possums are protected.
Is it illegal to remove a possum yourself?
Yes. Possums are protected native animals in every state we operate in. Trapping, relocating or harming one without a licence carries significant fines.
How much does possum removal cost?
Inspection is free and the price is fixed before work starts. Cost depends on how many entry points need sealing, not on how long the animal takes to leave. First-time customers take 25% off with the code POSSUM25.
How long does the job take?
Most jobs are finished in 2–3 hours on the first visit, including sealing. Larger roofs with multiple entry points sometimes need a short second visit.
Will the possum come back?
Not through a sealed opening. Removal without sealing is temporary — the roof is still an open invitation, which is why sealing is part of every job.
Do you relocate the possum?
Release is handled exactly as your state law requires. In Victoria a possum must be released on the same property, which is why sealing is the only real fix there.
What if there are babies in the roof?
We check for dependent young before anything is closed. Sealing a mother out while joeys are inside is both cruel and illegal, so timing changes if young are present.
Can you fix the damage as well?
We seal the structure and assess insulation. Chewed wiring should go to an electrician — our written report gives them exactly what they need.
